Project TND is an effective, interactive classroom-based substance abuse prevention program that is based on more than two decades of successful research at the University of Southern California. Project TND focuses on three factors that predict tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use, violence-related behaviors, and other problem behaviors among youth, including:
- Motivation factors (i.e., students’ attitudes, beliefs, expectations, and desires regarding drug use);
- Skills (effective communication, social self-control, and coping skills); and
- Decision-making (i.e., how to make decisions that lead to health-promoting behaviors).
"Have a Little PRIDE" is our elementary prevention program specifically designed for elementary aged students in West Alabama. P.R.I.D.E. partners with Tuscaloosa City and County school systems to implement the program. P.R.I.D.E. provides the program to 3rd grade classrooms in the City and County School System of Tuscaloosa, as requested by the school. The purpose of this program is to lay the groundwork for understanding addiction and to gain perspective on the benefits of making healthy lifestyle choices throughout their lifetime.
The children are provided with fun, interactive materials that they can keep and take home as well as a letter to parents and guardians explaining the program goals.

Prevention Programs
P.R.I.D.E. provides prevention education programs with students at the SPAN Program and Grad Academy. P.R.I.D.E. partners with SPAN on a weekly basis due to the influx of new students and the importance of continuing education. Grad Academy is visited several times throughout the year. In both programs, students are allowed to speak their minds about their personal beliefs regarding drug use as well as what led them to those beliefs. The root of the engagement is to make sure the students better understand addiction and the consequences that come with the decision to use and abuse substances.
P.R.I.D.E. also serves at-risk youth through our P.R.I.D.E. Prevention Academy Program. This program consists of in-depth education on various substances and provides students with a certificate and letter of completion to assist them in getting back on track in school and in the community.
